- Ares Tube, download videos from YouTube, http://www.benjaminstrahs.com "Simply enter in the YouTube page URL and Ares Tube will download the file, convert it, and then import it directly into iTunes. The next time you plug in your iPod video it will automatically transfer. If you don't have an iPod video, you can still watch the movie in iTunes." I downloaded it, my antispyware passed it, and I followed all the directions (which are amazingly simple), but it didn't download or convert any videos. If you have better luck, let me know.
- KeepVID, http://keepvid.com/ Online utility to download and convert YouTube videos; includes a bookmarklet that doesn't seem to work. So, now I've managed to save a YouTube video as an MP4 on my Desktop, and I imported into iTunes, so now I can play it on my iPod. It works!
- Zamzar Free Online File conversion (http://www.zamzar.com/). "[C]onvert youtube videos to mpg to show in school and load on my server. . . . [U]se it to convert pdf to word and" vice versa. Also convert Vista/Word 2007 docs. "Very powerful and versatile sites for lots of needs." [Posted to TechRhet listserv (techrhet@interversity.org) by Ted Nellen 3/9/08. Re-posted without permission.]
